Huda explains the Nutrition in her Granola Bars

Energy bars Granola bars Ingredients Oats Organic Products The Huda Bar

The first Classic Huda Bar was conceptualised when Huda, our founder, didn’t have the time (or inclination) to make breakfast every morning, but she needed something nutritious to start her day, like many of us. The granola bars that then came into being are convenient, satiating, nutrient-rich, all natural and provide enough clean energy to keep us going until our next meal. Oh, and they’re delicious.

Here are the reasons why we use these basic foundational ingredients in all our bars:

Oats

We use oats in our recipes because they give us a sustained, slow-release of energy. This is one way of avoiding a sudden spike of energy, but soon after, a crash that leaves you tired and really sleepy - an effect many carb-rich foods can have.

Rice for example is full of sugar and starch. One of the reasons why we get really sleepy after a good meal of biryani. Ideal on a Sunday afternoon but not the best thing when you have a busy day to get through. Hence oats, which is a better alternative and contains plenty of fibre as well!

Dry Fruits & Nuts

Almonds and dates give us plenty of micro-nutrients. Dates are rich in calcium and iron. The iron is really good for our blood. And calcium, as you know, for our bones and teeth. Dates also satisfy our sugar fix, but in a much more restrained manner.

No Refined Sugar

We use honey, organic jaggery, dates and sometimes, date syrup to mildly sweeten the bars. We don’t use any white sugar in any of our bars. Even though sugar by itself isn’t bad for us, it’s more about what kind of sugar we are consuming and where it is coming from.

Most sugar processing units use sulphur to remove impurities from sugar crystals. As a result, some quantities of sulphur are retained in the sugar crystals, when consumed over a period of time lead to many health complications.

Lots of Seeds

Flax seeds give us healthy fats, antioxidants and protein among other nutrients. They help lower the risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Sunflower seeds not only taste delicious but add crunch and also contain minerals that are excellent for our hair and skin.

Chia seeds deliver Omega-3 fatty acids, are rich in antioxidants that fortify our immune system and also give us fibre, calcium and iron.

Ragi Malt or (Ragi huri hittu)

A staple in South Indian diets, it is gluten-free and packed with fibre, Vitamin D, Calcium, good carbs and amino acids.
